CG FileCryptTM
This application Encrypts and Decrypts files by
using the ComputerSafe
Security System core encryption
algorithms. It's main purpose is to allow a user a
reliable way of transporting files encrypted with
the ComputerSafeTM
Security System to another location
and then to decrypt them for use without requiring
the installation of the entire ComputerSafe
program.
When done, the user may re-encrypt those files using
the same private key or a new key.
This program can be used with any fixed or portable
storage media (i.e.. flash cards, USB memory sticks,
hard drives, CD's).

Important Note:
After clicking Download please select the
save option and store the program to your
desired folder then double click on "CGFileCrypt.exe"
to start the program. |

Basic Usage - This program performs very fast
encryption and decryption of files. It utilizes the
robust American Encryption Standard algorithm (the
same that is used in the ComputerSafe product).
Encrypting Files -
1. Highlight folders/files in the tree window that you
wish to encrypt using the methods below.
-
Select
Single Item - left click the item.
-
Select
consecutive files/folders - click the first item,
press and hold down SHIFT, and then click the last
item.
-
Select
nonconsecutive files/folders - press and hold down
CTRL and then click each item.
2. Press
the Encrypt button and you will be prompted for a
key (series of characters) to use for the process.
Important
Note: Do NOT forget this key as you will not be
able to decrypt the file without it!!!
3. A
status window will appear showing the progress of
the encryption process. Press the "close status
window" button when the "Finished..." text appears.
Note: If
you select files or folders that are already ComputerSafe encrypted, you will first be prompted for
a new key and then prompted again to enter the old
key (used to previously encrypt) the files/folders.
Example: If you had previously encrypted abc.txt
using a key of "janedoe" and you selected that file
to encrypt, you would (at the first prompt) enter
the new key you want to use for the file (i.e.. "johnsmith"
and then at the second prompt you would have to
enter "janedoe". This is to insure that you are in
control of the file and do know the old key before
the program decrypts it and then re-encrypts it.
Decrypting Files -
1. Highlight folders/files in the tree window that you
wish to decrypt using the methods below.
-
Select
Single Item - left click the item.
-
Select
consecutive files/folders - click the first item,
press and hold down SHIFT, and then click the last
item.
-
Select
nonconsecutive files/folders - press and hold down
CTRL and then click each item.
2. Press
the DeCrypt button and you will be prompted for a
key (series of characters) to use for the process.
3. A
status window will appear showing the progress of
the decryption process. Press the "close status
window" button when the "Finished..." text appears.
Note: If
you have selected multiple items to decrypt and
those files were encrypted with different keys, you
will be periodically prompted during the decryption
process for the encryption key for file(s).
Example: You encrypted a.txt with "tom", you
encrypted b.txt with "jane". Now later you selected
both files to decrypt. You would be prompted for a
key for a.txt and also prompted for b.txt. This is
due to them having different encryption keys.
However if you selected say 20 files to decrypt and
the first 10 had the same key as each other and the
last 10 had the same key as each other, then you
would only be prompted two times for a key.
